JV Wesleyan Wolves 8 JV Knights 6
The JV Knights hosted the 4 & 1 Wesleyan
Wolves JV squad this evening. Sophomore Dustin Beggs got the
nod from the Knights coaching staff to be the starting
hurler in the first game of this weeks home and home series vs.
the Wolves. After holding the Wolves scoreless in the first the
Knights offense went to work. Leadoff hitter Ken Taylor belted
a single and stole second. With two outs red-hot Landon Hall
beat out an infield single to put runners on the corners as Brad
Skuse stepped to the plate. With the count 1and 0 on the
batter, Landon broke toward second and drew the catcher's throw and
without hesitation, Kenny parked on third, dashed toward home
plate. Landon beat the throw to second and Kenny crossed
the plate to score the Knights first run. A perfectly
executed double steal!!! Tyler Kipping went in to pinch run for
Hall and Brad Skuse slashed a line drive rbi single to left center to
score Kipping. Skuse took second on the throw home and up
stepped Robert Bennett to the plate. On an 0-1 count Robert
drilled a long fly to the power alley in left center that dropped on
the warning track and raced around the base paths for a
three-bagger scoring Skuse. The first inning ended with
the Knights holding a 3 - 0 lead with all the runs scored with 2
outs.
Starting hurler Dustin Beggs breezed through the
first 5 innings scattering 5 hits and fanning 5 Wolves. The
Wolves managed to score a run in third, but two outstanding fielding
plays kept the Wolves at bay. Cameron Malone made a
spectacular diving catch in right to save a hit and hot corner
third baseman Ken Taylor made a beautiful backhanded snag of a shot
down the line and threw a perfect strike to first to end the third
inning. The Knights defense was solid through the first 5
innings. In the meantime the Wolves starter also settled down
and the Knights were only able to muster three additional hits
through the fifth inning. Frazier Day, Landon Hall and Ken
Taylor all belted singles in separate innings, but were left stranded
on the bases as the Knights bats went silent.
In the top of the sixth, with the Knights
seemingly coasting with a 3 - 1 lead, the starvin' Wolves finally
struck. A combination of walks, Knights errors and
a couple of Wesleyan doubles produced 7 runs (only 2 earned) to
turn the game in the Wolves favor 8 - 3. The Knights failed to
score in their half of the sixth and reliever Ken Taylor shut down
the Wolves in the top of the seventh pitching out of a bases loaded
jam.
With their backs against the wall the Knights
had one more chance to rally in the bottom of the seventh. Frazier
Day and Ken Taylor each walked to lead off the inning and moved
up a base on a wild pitch. Matt Ouellette scored
Frazier on a grounder to the right side. With two outs
Landon Hall stroked yet another rbi single to narrow the gap to
8 - 5. The Knight fans and bench began to renew
hope as Brad Skuse barely reached first, beating out an infield
single. Robert Bennett than followed with a slow roller to
short, but Brad slid into second just ahead of the force out and
Landon scored to make it 8 - 6. With the tying run on first the
magical rally ended as the Wolves first baseman made a nice,
unassisted, play to end the game.
The Knights out hit the Wolves 9 - 7, but
came up short of runs in the end. Our defense was
solid for the majority of the game and Dustin Beggs pitched 5 quality
innings. The loss evens the JV record to 2 - 2 for the
season. We'll get a chance, weather permitting, for a
rematch at Wesleyan on Thursday. Tomorrow we have another JV
home game against the St. Pius Golden Lions. See you
there!!!

APRIL
9 CENTENNIAL JV 12 Kell JV 4
Following a rainout vs.
West Forsyth on Thursday the JV Knights regrouped to take on the Kell
Longhorns at home. A beautiful, breezy day greeted Knights starter
Ken Taylor as he challenged the 'Horns. Nice defense plays by
middle infielders Max Valz and Matt Oullette helped Ken breeze
through the top of the first. The Knights struck first in the bottom
of the frame as Ken got hit by a pitch and Matt Oulette followed
with a single to right. With two outs Michael Lopez
drilled a single to left to score Ken. Alex Muratore got hit by
another pitch to load 'em up. Three consecutive walks caused
three more runs to cross the plate and the Knights led 4 - 0 after
one. Another four run rally with two outs!!! Ken cruised
through the second inning. Third sacker Alex Muratore made the
play of the inning charging a slow roller and making a perfect throw
to first to get the runner by a step. The Knights scored two more in
the bottom of the second as both Matt Oullette and Brad Skuse reached
base and scored. The Longhorns struck for two unearned runs in
the top of the third to narrow the margin to 6 - 2 in favor of the
home team. In the third Marcus Fitzhugh reached on an error and
pitcher Ken Taylor followed up with a first pitch triple to the gap
in left center. Matt Oullette followed with an rbi single to
left scoring pinch runner John Steinberg. Oullette stole second
as Brad Skuse worked the count full and walked. An infield fly
actually advanced Oullette to third. With runners on first and
third Coaches Deese and DeVito called for a double steal as Brad
broke for second Matt took home on the steal. Michael Lopez
followed with his second rbi single of the day to score Brad.
The inning ended with the Knights scoring four more runs to take a
commanding 10 - 2 lead.
In the fourth Ken
struck out the first two Longhorns and than pitched out of a based
loaded jam with the help of a nice defensive play by keystoner Max
Valz. Ken finished his start scattering four hits,
fanning six Longhorns and allowing only two unearned runs.
In the fifth Alex Muratore drove in Brad Skuse with his second
rbi of the contest and Michael Lopez stroked his third base hit of
the game. Meanwhile James Brewer entered the game to relieve Taylor
and strike out two in three innings of relief. The Knights
scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth as Ken stroked a
single to left. Matt Oullette than reached first on a
fielders choice and moved third on a Landon Hall single. Once
again the Knights coaches called for a double steal as Landon
barreled into second and Matt stole home for the second time in
the game!!! Brewer set down the Longhorns in the top of the
seventh and the Knights had a 12 - 4 victory.
It was nice win
on the last day of Spring Break as we head to Marietta for a
game on Tuesday. Ken had another quality start and James
looked strong in relief. Michael Lopez cracked three hits and
had two rbi's. The offensive hero, Matt, had two hits,
scored four runs, stole three bases with two of those being
home!!! Ken helped his cause with a triple, single and an
rbi. Alex Muratore had two rbi's and Brad Skuse scored three
runs, with two stolen bases and a single. Cameron Malone
also registered a base hit and made a nice catch in right. Hope
to see everyone next week as we head into the final stretch of
the JV season. The Varsity takes on the Alpharetta Raiders at
home on Monday. Have a nice weekend!!!

MARCH
26 JV KNIGHTS 8 JV WHEELER WILCATS 6
After a couple of one-sided road losses
the JV Knights returned to the friendly confines of their home
field. Ken Taylor was called upon to put a stop to the two game
skid as the Knights took on the Wheeler Wildcats. Ken got off
to a quick start retiring the Wildcats 1-2-3 in the top of the
first. In the bottom of the first Ken walked to leadoff
and scored on Brad Skuse's long triple to the power alley in right
center. Brad scored on Landon's sharp grounder that got by the shortstop.
Landon then stole second, moved to third on Michael Lopez's
grounder to the right side and scored on a wild pitch. The
Knights led 3 - 0 after one inning of play. In the second
the Wildcats clawed back with a run. Ken shut them
down in the third fanning two Wildcat batters. In the
bottom of the third Landon Hall hit a rope to left center for
another three-bagger. Lefty Michael Lopez then stepped up and
worked the count full before ripping a shot over first base and into
the right field corner. Great at bat!!
Michael glided into third easily scoring Landon and hitting
the third Knight triple of the evening. Lopez trotted
home on Robert Bennett's sacrifice fly to left. Alex
Muratore walked and Tyler Kipping followed with a single to right.
Both scored as Frazier Day worked the count full and reached on an
error. When the inning ended the Knights had taken a seemingly
insurmountable 7 - 1 lead.
Starting pitcher Ken Taylor continued
his domination of the Wildcats with super control and an array
of pitches. In the fifth the crafty hurler used only 5 pitches
to retire the Wildcats in order. In fact the 5 pitches produced
3 grounders to second baseman Frazier Day who threw to first sacker
Michael Lopez each time for the easy outs. The 3 assists
by Frazier and the 3 putouts by Lopez in one inning tied the
Centennial record as well as the National High School record held by
many !!! With the high school record in the books the Knights
offense continued to produce. In the fifth Robert Bennett led
off with a single, stole second, and scored on Frazier Day's ripped
rbi single to left.
Ken Taylor exited the game after 5 innings
and an 8 - 2 lead. Ken struck out 4, walked 1, allowed only 1
hit and threw only 57 pitches with an amazing 45 of those being
strikes!!! Ken says he's seeing his current success from
his off season work on mechanics and technique. Keep up
the good work!! The Wildcats came alive in the sixth with four runs
to tighten things up 8 - 6. In the top of the seventh the
Wildcats tried to mount another rally putting runners on second and
third with no outs. A nice outfield play by late substitution
and frosh call up Marcus Fitzhugh and southpaw Michael
Lopez's slick relief work saved the day with the tying run on
second. Ken got the win and Michael Lopez garnered his first
save of the season as a closer. Along with Marcus, the
game also marked the debut of infielders Max Valz and John Steinberg
both brought up to the JV's from the Freshman team. Max replaced
Matt Oulette who was hit in the face by a foul tip. We wish
Matt a quick recovery!!! The next JV game is next Wednesday
March 31st at home versus Milton.

24 JV WALTON RAIDERS 14 JV CENTENNIAL KNIGHTS 3
The nicest day of the season greeted the
Knights as they traveled to East Cobb to take on the perennial
powerhouse Walton Raiders. The Knights drew first blood in
their top of the first inning as Brad Skuse took a
fast ball in the back with two outs. Ouch!!! Landon Hall then
ripped a double to center to score Skuse and stake the Knights a one
run lead. The Raiders struck for 4 in their half of the first
to lead 4 - 1 after one. The Raiders pulled away by scoring
three more in the second to make it 7 - 1. In the top of third
Matt Oulette reached on an error with one out. Up stepped
the number three hitter Brad Skuse who'd been hit by a
pitch in his first at bat. Not giving in, Brad worked the count
to one and one before launching a towering drive over the left
field fence for the first home run of his High School
career. When asked about hitting the homer after being plunked
his first time up Brad replied: "payback's a b_ _ _
_!!"
The Knights never got closer and
the Raiders continued their offensive barrage. Knights
catcher Naveen Chandran made a nice throw to gun down a Raider
attempting to steal third base, but highlights were few and far
between. The game ended after four and a half innings with
the Knights on the wrong end of a 14 - 3 score. The Knights
will return home to take on the visiting Wheeler Wildcat
JV's on Friday.

March
20th - JV KNIGHTS SWEEP JV HORNETS IN SATURDAY
DOUBLEHEADER!!!!!
The JV Knights traveled
cross town on Saturday to take on their arch rival Roswell
Hornets. The Knights were coming off two rough home losses and
certainly their confidence was being tested. Not making the job
any easier was facing a high powered Hornet offense that was
averaging 9 runs per game that had elevated their record to 6 - 2
coming into Saturday's twin bill. On the other end of the
spectrum the JV Knights offense had gone dormant over the past two
games mustering only 5 hits. Also fueling the rivalry was the
fact that a combined 13 players (all Freshman) from both teams have
played travel ball together for the North Georgia Barons over the
past several years. Bragging rights for the next year were on
the line as this was literally turning into a teammate versus
teammate affair.
Landon Hall was
named starting pitcher for the Knights in the first stanza of the
doubleheader. On a spectacular Georgia day for
baseball, the Knights struck first as leadoff hitter Ken Taylor
walked, stole second and scored in the opening inning.
Unfortunately, Dustin Beggs was hit by a pitch on his left hand and
had to be removed from the game in the first. The Hornets tied
it up in the second and in the third as Matt Oulette singled to
score Tyler Kipping, who had led off the inning with a walk, as the
Knights took a 2 - 1 lead. The Hornets offense struck for 3
runs in the third to take back the lead 4 - 2. Ken Taylor came
in to relieve Landon in the fourth and immediately shut down the
normally hard hitting Hornets. The Knights offense also
remained anemic and to make matters worse the Hornets brought in
their legendary submarining closer "Catfish" Mayuski.
According to sources in Roswell, "Catfish" was 4 for
4 in converting save opportunities this spring season and had been
virtually unhittable. This fact appeared accurate as
through the sixth our only hit, besides Oulette's, was Nick
Kuse's long double to left.
Down 4 - 2 the
Knights would attempt to rally as they came up for their last
chance in the top of the seventh. Over the past
20 innings the JV Knights had only managed 7 hits. With
"Catfish" on the mound and the Knights offense in the
doldrums things looked bleak for the JV's. But what a
difference one inning can make in a season of
innings!!! Like a bolt of lightning the Knights
offense woke up. Michael Lopez reached first to lead off the
seventh and Tyler Kipping took one for the team getting
hit in the back. They moved up on a passed ball and Ken
Taylor helped his own cause by scoring Lopez on a grounder to the
right side. Matt Oulette than followed with a single scoring
Kipping to tie the game. Speedy Brad Skuse beat out an infield
single to put runners on first & second. With 2 outs big
Nick Kuse stepped to the plate with the score tied and the game
on the line. On a 2 & 1 count Nick jacked a line drive
double that scored 2 runs as the Knights took a 6 - 4 lead.
With the Hornets bench and fans stunned the onslaught
continued. Alex Muratore then singled to right to drive in
another run and Robert Bennett followed up with a
big double. Michael Lopez drilled a line drive single up
the middle and Tyler Kipping singled to left. Ken Taylor lined
yet another rbi single to left. Matt Oulette reached
base again and Brad Skuse followed with his second hit of the
inning driving in two more runs. When the dust
settled the Knights had had their biggest inning of the
season. They scored 11 runs on eight hits with 7 of those runs
coming with 2 outs. In one inning they'd surpassed their
combined run and hit totals over the previous 20
innings!!!! It was a timely and satisfying rally!!!
It wasn't
quite over yet as Ken Taylor still needed 3 more outs to finish
the job. Ken continued his magic by striking out two
Hornets in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win. Ken
totally took the sting out of the Hornets in 4 brilliant innings of
relief. Ken scattered 3 hits, struck out 4, walked none and
shut down the normally hard hitting Hornets with no runs. The
final score was 13 - 4 as the Knights rallied for their biggest
victory of the year. The big win was a nice team
effort, but certainly Nick Kuse delivered the decisive offensive
blow and Ken Taylor totally dominated in relief. The Knights
wouldn't have much time to savor their win as the second stanza of
the twin bill was set to begin.
Dustin Beggs,
who'd been injured in the first game on his non-pitching hand, was
tasked as starting pitcher to keep the Hornets in check in game
two. The big question was would his injured hand bother
Dustin and could he keep the stirred up Hornets nest in check after
their offense had been shut down by Taylor for four innings in the
first game? The Hornets countered with their ace, Steven
Sablich and after four full innings of scoreless ball it looked
like the best pitcher's duel of the season. The Knights loaded
the bases with one out in the first, but couldn't get a run over the
plate. They also got 2 runners on in the second and third, but
failed to capitalize stranding 8 runners over the first 4
innings. Landon Hall, Ken Taylor and Tyler Kipping all belted
singles during the first four innings, but couldn't produce a
run. Meanwhile, Dustin was superb on the mound for the Knights,
baffling the Hornets with an array of fast balls, change of speeds
and a nasty curve ball. He retired the first six Hornets
he faced. In the fourth the Hornets threatened, but catcher Nick Kuse
gunned down a Hornet stealing second aided by a nice tag by second
sacker, Alex Muratore.
With both teams
held scoreless through four innings the Knights finally broke
open the pitchers duel in the top of the fifth. Brad Skuse led
off with a single up the middle and moved to second on a passed ball.
Landon followed by beating out an infield single. With two outs
up stepped Robert Bennett to try to get the Knights on the
board. Once again the clutch Bennett delivered. He drove
a shot to right center scoring Skuse and Hall for 2 rbi's and giving
the Knights a 2 - 0 lead. It was now up to Dustin to keep the
angry Hornets in check and protect our slim lead. The
Knights got an insurance run in the sixth as they loaded the bases
and Brad Skuse scored Tyler Kipping from third on a long sacrifice
fly to right to make it 3 - 0.
After that it was
all Beggs and the Knights defense. Going into the bottom of
seventh Dustin was in total command as he tried to close out the game
and sweep the doubleheader. Dustin got the first Hornet to ground
out to second on yet another nice play by Alex Muratore and than
proceeded to fan the final two Hornets to secure the
victory. Dustin not only pitched our first complete game of the
year, but also whitewashed the Hornets with our first shutout of the
year. Dustin was superb as he only used 86 pitches, 63 of those
strikes, to shut down the normally potent Hornet offense.
Dustin struck out 8 batters, without a walk and scattered 5 hits over
seven complete innings. Even more incredible was the fact that,
combined, Ken and Dustin completely took the sting out of the Hornets
offense, pitching 11 consecutive shutout innings while striking
out 12 Hornets and not allowing a single base on balls over that
duration. In addition, it was the first time the Hornets
had lost consecutive games all season.
It was a great
way to end the week and now the JV Knights are back to a 4 and 4
record with four more games coming up this week. The bats have
come alive and the starting pitching looks solid. Other
than a couple of minor mishaps the defense looked tight as we
head to Lassiter on Monday. Hopefully, the momentum will
continue as we have a full dance card this week. Congrats to
the coaches, players and fans for a great road sweep over the Hornets!!!
Let's keep it going!!!

March 19: POPE JV 15 KNIGHTS JV 7
A perfect day for
baseball greeted the JV Knights as they took on the Pope
Greyhounds at Centennial on Friday evening. Robert Bennett was
appointed as the starting pitcher to take on the 'Hounds. The
Junior Varsity Knights hoped to find their hitting eye after
being shut down by the Alpharetta Raiders the day before. The
Greyhounds raced out to a 3 - 0 lead after two & a half innings.
The Knights infield collaborated on a nice double play in the second
on a Matt Oulette (ss) to Alex Muratore (2B) to Dustin
Beggs (1B) routine. In the third Tyler Kipping got things
started for the Knights with a single and Frazier Day got hit by a
pitch. With one out Matt Oulette drew a walk to load the bases.
Kenny Taylor than walked on 4 straight pitches and Kipping scored
from third. Landon Hall drove in another run on a slow
roller to third. Robert Bennett helped his own cause by
taking one for the team (HBP) to score another run.
Designated hitter Brad Skuse worked the count full and drew yet
another base on balls to score Taylor and make the score 6 - 3 in
favor of the Knights. The Knights produced 6 runs on one hit in
the third.
The Knights lead
was short lived as the Greyhounds rallied for 3 more in the top of
the fourth to tie it up 6 - 6. In the fifth the Greyhounds closed in
for the kill as they scored nine runs (only 3 earned) to make
it 15 - 6. The Greyhounds squelched a Knights rally in the
sixth after a Dustin Beggs triple. In the seventh the Knights
executed another nice double play as slick fielding second
baseman Alex Muratore snared a line drive and threw to Dustin
Beggs at first to complete the twin killing. The Knights
gave it one last gasp in the bottom of the seventh as Kenny Taylor
led off with a double and scored on Landon's sacrifice fly to
center. The final score ended with the Greyhounds winning
15 - 7. Tyler Kipping made his first appearance on the mound in
relief for the Knights and pitched a respectable 2 &
two/thirds innings . Saturday the JV Knights head to cross town
rival Roswell to take on the Hornets in an afternoon
doubleheader.
March 18: JV ALPHARETTA RAIDERS 7 JV KNIGHTS 1
Starting pitcher,
southpaw, Michael Lopez took the mound in the Knights region
home opener against the visiting Alpharetta Raiders. The
Raiders struck quickly as they scored 4 runs in the first 3 innings.
In the third Dustin Beggs led off with a long triple to the warning
track in the right center power gap. Dustin than scored on Matt
Oulette's infield single to make it 4 - 1 in favor of the
Raiders. The Knights than went away quietly as the next three
batters were retired in order. That was the extent of the
Knights offense as some solid Raider pitching held us to just 2
hits. James Brewer did a nice job in relief for the
Knights and the score ended with the Raiders coming out on top 7
- 1. The Knights defense was solid throughout the contest and
certainly showed some great potential. The JV's take on the
Pope Greyhounds on Friday at Centennial.

9 JV Wesleyan Wolves 8 JV Knights 6
The JV Knights hosted
the 4 & 1 Wesleyan Wolves JV squad this evening.
Sophomore Dustin Beggs got the nod from the Knights coaching

holding the Wolves scoreless in the first the Knights offense went to

throw to second and Kenny crossed the plate to score the Knights
first run. A perfectly executed double steal!!!
Tyler Kipping went in to pinch run for Hall and Brad Skuse slashed a
line drive rbi single to left center to score Kipping. Skuse
took second on the throw home and up stepped Robert Bennett to the
plate. On an 0-1 count Robert drilled a long fly to the power
alley in left center that dropped on the warning track and raced
around the base paths for a three-bagger scoring Skuse. The
first inning ended with the Knights holding a 3 - 0 lead with
all the runs scored with 2 outs.
Starting hurler Dustin

fanning 5 Wolves. The Wolves managed to score a run in third,
but two outstanding fielding plays kept the Wolves at

baseman made a nice, unassisted, play to end the game.
The Knights out hit the
Wolves 9 - 7, but came up short of runs in the end.
Our defense was solid for the majority of the game and Dustin Beggs
pitched 5 quality innings. The loss evens the JV record to 2 -
2 for the season. We'll get a chance, weather permitting,
for a rematch at Wesleyan on Thursday. Tomorrow we have another
JV home game against the St. Pius Golden Lions. See you
there!!!

Thursday March 4 JV Knights 10 Sprayberry Yellowjackets
6
The Sprayberry
Yellowjackets stormed into Centennial territory on Thursday
night determined to avenge their home loss to the Knights on
Monday. Big righty Landon Hall got the call from the coaching
staff as the Knights starting pitcher on this chilly night. The
Yellowjackets drew first blood as they opened up with a run in the
top of the first. The Knights kept pace in the bottom of the
first with Kenny Taylor, who had singled to lead off the inning and
than stolen second and was moved to third on Brad
Skuse's two strike single, scoring on a Landon Hall
sacrifice fly. The Knights took the lead for
good when Landon singled in the third inning to score
Matt Ouellette who had led off the inning with a
sharp single. In the fourth the Knights broke it wide open
as Cameron Malone, Ken Taylor and Brad Skuse all singled. The big
offensive blow of the night came from the bat of Landon Hall who
stroked a sky rocket shot over the right center field fence for
the first JV homer of the season!!!!! Who says pitchers can't
hit? Robert Bennett, James Brewer, Nick Kuse and Cameron
Malone all followed with consecutive singles (Cameron's 2nd base
hit of the inning) and when the dust settled the Knights held a
commanding 8-1 lead. The Knights never looked back as
Landon finished his start with 8 strikeouts and no walks in just four
innings. In fact, Landon struck out the side in the fourth in
his dominating performance. Ken Taylor and Nick Kuse mopped up
in relief as the Knights claimed their second consecutive
victory.
There was no doubt that
the offensive and pitching star of the night for the Knights was
Landon Hall. Not only did Landon dominate on the mound to
garner his first win of the 2010 campaign, but he
also helped his own cause by going 4 for 4 at the plate, with a
sacrifice fly, a homer, 3 singles and 4 rbi's!!! Ken Taylor,
Matt Oulette, Brad Skuse, Robert Bennett, James Brewer, Nick Kuse and
Cameron Malone all chipped in with 2 hits apiece in the offensive
onslaught. There were also some nice defensive plays including
a nifty Malone (2nd base) to Ouellette (Shortstop) to Brewer (1st
base) double play to end the fifth inning.
Next week the JV
Knights seek to extend there winning streak as they take on Wesleyan
and St. Pius at home on Tuesday & Wednesday and travel to
Norcross to take on Wesleyan on their home turf on Thursday.
Monday March 1 JV Knights 9 Sprayberry Yellowjackets 3
The JV Knights rallied
against the home team Sprayberry Yellowjackets to post their
first victory of the spring season 9-3. The Knights staked the
Yellowjackets a 2-1 lead before rallying in the top of the fourth
inning. The big blow was a 2 run triple down the right field line by
Dustin Beggs that broke the game open. Brad Skuse added a
double for the Knights attack. On the mound, lefty Michael
Lopez started the game, pitched 3 innings and struck out 4 for the
Knights. Lopez earned the win and received some nice help from
the bullpen in the form of James Brewer and Jimmy Meyer.
The win set up a rematch between the Knights and the Yellowjackets
Thursday evening at Centennial.
